Time Traveler's Wife Pages 230-246

May 24, 1992 Claire is 21 and Henry is 28: Claire was over at Henry's apartment taking a shower while he was cooking dinner. It was Claire's birthday so Henry was cooking an extravagant four course meal. They had soup, salad, salmon, and a delicious mango ice cream with raspberries. After dinner they get into an intense convo about their relationship. Suddenly Henry pulls out a satin pouch and pulls out his mother's engagement ring. He gets on his knee and says, " You know that I love you, will you marry me?" Claire starts shaking and in a small cracked voice says, "YES...Henry!" She has a small sense of deja vu because Henry has already told her that they are married in the future.
May 31, 1992 Claire is 21 and Henry is 28: It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon when Claire and Henry went to have brunch with Henry's dad, Richard, and his neighbor, Kimy. Claire is really nervous to meet Henry's father, but Henry reassures her that she will be fine, and that she does great with first impressions. The first couple minutes are a little awkward but after a while Richard really starts to love Claire. He thinks that she is beautiful, intelligent, and has a good sense of humor. While they are eating dinner Claire brings up Henry's mother..things get a little awkward once again. Claire asks Richard to tell her about Annette. At first he puts his head down in his hands, but then he starts defining her. He begins with: "she had the most marvelous voice, rich and pure, such a voice and such a range, she could express her soul with that voice, whenever I listened to her I felt my life meant more than mere biology... then he states she was kind, and a great artist; you don't often find that those go together, she made people happy, she enjoyed life, she only cried twice, once when i gave her that ring, and once when Henry was born." Claire not knowing how to respond simply says you were very lucky. Richard says yes, we were and we weren't. Claire says well don't you think its better to be extremely happy for a short while, even if you lose it, than to be just okay for your whole life? Richard sees Claire's point and is pleased with it, he understands exactly what she means. After a little more conversing Henry and Claire left, and returned to Henry's apartment.
June 10, 1992 Claire is 21: Claire is sitting by herself at an old coffee shop working on a paper when she spots Celia, a girl she met in a bathroom at a concert a while back. Claire invites her to sit down with her and they begin to talk. Celia invites Claire to a bar where she is meeting her friend, Henry's ex girlfriend. Claire doesn't want to go because she knows it will be awkward and not end well. Unfortunately Celia forces her to go by stealing her paper and not giving it back unless she comes to the bar. When they get there Celia's friend is out ragged. She finds out that Claire is engaged to Henry and it starts a dramatic fight. Celia's friend ends up storming out of the bar with Claire soon to follow leaving Celia alone.
