As the book continues Hanna and Michael get more and more involved with each other. They start to talk more regularly, spend all of their free time together, and towards the end of Michael's Easter vacation they take a trip together.
Their first trip together is a biking trip that takes them through four different cities in Germany. They biked all day and slept in hotels at night. One morning Michael got up really early to go get breakfast and flowers for Hanna. When he came back he found her furiously screaming, she whipped him with her leather belt and said "Don't ever leave me again!" That fight really scared me because most women aren't abusive. Michael said he left a not telling her where he went but when he looked for it he couldn't find it.
After they resolved all of their problems they got back to loving each other. The next day they returned home from the trip; to Michael's surprise his whole family went on a vacation too and left him alone, at the house, for a week. He figured he would have Hanna over every night until his family returned. The first night when Hanna came over Michael was cooking dinner for her. She seemed out of place, like a lost kid at a grocery store. She didn't feel comfortable there especially seeing all of his families pictures. She decided she did not want to stay the night, so they ended up sleeping over at her place as usual.
This part of the book just seemed really awkward for me. It was probably because a fifteen year old high school boy went on a vacation with an almost forty year old women with out his parents knowing. You are probably wondering how he got away with this, he lied, like most boys his age. He didn't lie completely though, he said he was going on a biking trip with one of his classmates to visit an old friend who moved away. I don't recommend lying like this because parents most likely always find out the truth. Some people will say that lying is worth it because during the process they had a lot of fun; but in the long run honesty is what matters.
