The Reader Page 69-83

Hanna and Michael kick off their summer with their usual rituals-reading, showering, making love, and then laying in bed together.  Hanna was fine with this routine but Michael wanted to do something spontaneous and exciting.  They decided to go to the movie theatre together.  Of course they had to travel to the next town over so no one they knew would see them together.  Michael liked taking charge of Hanna, especially in public.  He put his hands around her waist and was proud of it, not self conscious like usual; he wasn't didn't care who saw it or what people said.
This moment reminds me of one of those creepy lifetime movies when an older guy meets a younger girl online.  They go on a date together and the girl feels cool because she is with an older guy, but in reality its really awkward and strange.  Even though the situation is reversed in The Reader, it still reminds me of that.
In the middle of chapter 15 Michael is stressing out because he doesn't know how to tell his friends about Hanna.  He wants to tell them so bad because she is the most important thing in his life right now.  Unfortunately he never finds the right time to bring her up.  He feels like he is letting her down because he tells his friends everything but for some reason he can't tell them about her.  One night he has a moment with Sophie, one of his close girl friends, under a garden shed. It was raining and they were trying to stay warm to they cuddled up next to one another.  He thought that would be the perfect time to mention Hanna, but still he couldn't find the courage to do it.  After that night he never had the chance again to tell his friends about Hanna, but he quickly moves on.  The next day Hanna was gone...
