Time Traveler's Wife Pages 163-194

December 24-26 1991 Claire is 20 and Henry is 28: It was December 24th and Henry and Claire were on their way to Michigan.  They were going to stay with Claire's family for the holidays.  Henry was really nervous, he doesn't do good with first impressions.  Finally after a long drive, they get to Claire's old house.  Henry doesn't remember any of it though, he doesn't visit Claire as a child until he is in his late thirties, but Claire still remembers all the times they shared out in the meadow.  When they first arrive Etta, the house keeper, is the first to greet them.  Claire introduces everyone to Henry and vice versa.  Everyone seems to like Henry, especially Claire's sister.
Later that night they all sit down for a family dinner.  Claire's mom brings up a touchy subject for Henry but he handles it well.  She asks what his mother does...she is dead he replied.  She is shocked, but Henry continues telling them what her career was.  Surprisingly enough Claire's parents knew Henry's mother. It is such a small world.  After dinner they all just hang out and drink alcohol.  Then Henry and Claire find out that Claire's brother, Mark, is getting married to the girl he got pregnant!! Claire cannot believe, nor can anyone else in her family.  Her parents are upset, they though Mark would be a better man than that, and they aren't too fond of the girl either.  She is from a hick family and she is the first one out of all of them to go to college.  Claire's mom has had depression problems all her life and starts getting emotional, no one knows what to do.  After dinner they go to church, a family tradition in Claire's family.  Henry is technically a Jew, but he never really grew up with a religion so going to catholic mass was alright for him.  During the mass Henry started to feel faint.  Usually when he is about to time travel he gets sweaty, nauseated, and feels faint; Claire is praying that he won't time travel.  How on earth would she explain that to her parents?
Response: Henry and Claire seemed really in tune during this whole family visit thing.  They didn't fight, Henry wasn't awkward, and Claire's parents loved him!  Personally I think it would be extremely hard to be dating a time traveler.  First of all i don't know if they are real or not, this book makes time traveling seem legit.  Second of all i would always be worried about him, like where is he? is he ok? is hope he making bad decisions?
