First off I would like to say that I am extremely excited to start reading this book. It has been on my reading list for a long time and when I found out one of my friends had it i was so anxious to get it from her. I have heard only good things about this book, and have heard it is an easy read.
The Man Out of Time: The book begins with Claire at a library in Chicago. She is having trouble finding the book she is looking for and asks someone for help. Just to her surprise Henry is there to help her.
Henry is a time traveler. He randomly travels through time into the past, present, and the future, but cannot control where he goes. Every time he travels he ends up naked somewhere and doesn't know if it is the past, the present, or the future. When Claire was a little girl she met Henry for the first time, she was 6 and he was 37. They met in a field behind Claire's house quiet frequently. As Claire grew up she saw Henry less and less and pretty soon she didn't see him at all..until that day at the library. Claire remembered Henry, but Henry had no memory of ever meeting her. She asked him out to dinner and he eagerly accepted. At dinner she told him all about their past and somehow the memories came back to him. He couldn't believed that he had met Claire in the present when they were the same age. They ended up having a great time together and Henry brought Claire back to his apartment. The next morning Claire woke up and Henry was gone; he time traveled back into the past and Claire had no idea how long he would be gone or when he would be back.
Henry flashed back to when he was a child and his first time travel experience. The day was January 2, 1988 and little Henry met big Henry at the Field Museum of Natural History. Big Henry was going to teach little Henry how to pick pocket. They spent all day at the museum, big Henry showed little Henry many different ways to steal a wallet from a man or a women. He learned how to get a wallet from a purse, a front pocket, and breast pocket, and a back pocket. After that long day of stealing they took their poorly earned cash to a hotel and rented a room. The next morning little Henry was gone. He was back to his own room in his own house in the right time.
So far i am really enjoying this book. It gets a little confusing sometimes and I don't know which Henry is the author is talking about, but as the book goes on it gets cleared up. I can relate to the book already. My family and I were all at a hockey game a long time ago and someone tried to pick pocket my father! He was sitting down and felt his wallet move and looked behind him to see a little boy and his father trying to steal his money!! We were all appalled. My dad was too nice to turn them in though. Also, I think it is kind of weird how Henry hangs out with Claire all the time even though she is not even 10 years old and he is 37.
