Blair Waldorf, the main character of this book, is a high schooler living in upstate New York.  Her family is very wealthy, she has always lived an extravagant life style.  She attends Constance Billard School for girls.  Her two best friends Kati Farkas and Isabel Coates go there too.  Blair is having a rough time because her mom just recently announced that she is getting engaged to Cyrus, her boyfriend.  Cyrus was gross.  Blair was embarrassed to be seen with him.  You see, Blair came from a family of high statue.  Everyone in her family was thin, good looking, and sophisticated.  Cyrus didn't fit any of those qualifications.  That morning at school Katie, Blair, and Isabel were talking in the cafeteria and Serena's name came up.  Serena was Blair's best friend before she traveled the world and got sent away to boarding school and never tried to keep in touch with her.  There were so many roomers spreading about Serena.  some people thought she joined a cult, others thought she got pregnant and was forced to leave town in order to save her family from embarrassment.  None of these were true however.  Blair was secretly jealous of Serena.  She had perfect long blonde hair, a perfect body, and a perfect face... who wouldn't be jealous of her?  Unfortunately Serena came back into town and now Blaire was going to have to deal with her.
