Friday, May 7, 2004 Claire is 32 and Henry is 40: All of Claire's friends and family are at the opening of her art exhibit at the Chicago Cultural Center. Most of her art is bird sculptures made out of wires and translucent strips of paper. Henry is in the back of the crowd with Alba. They are staying out of peoples way observing the art from afar. All of a sudden Alba screams "I want mama!" Henry isn't feeling very well, so he sits on the ground with his head in between his legs, trying to get rid of his queasy feeling. Alba begins running towards Claire, Henry crawls after her but he vanishes.
Friday, July 18, 2004 Claire is 33 Henry is 41: Henry is taking Charisse out for the night. They are going to the opera because Henry has season tickets and Charisse has never been to the opera. Claire stays home for the night with Alba. Her sister Alica is visiting from Michigan so they decide to have a girls night. Henry and Charisse get into a deep conversation about Gomez and Claire. Charisse thinks Gomez is going to ditch her for Claire in the future, so she wants Henry to tell her the future. He unfortunately can't do that, but he ends up telling her that everything will be okay.
Sunday, September 12, 2004: Claire wakes up to a beautiful sunny Sunday morning. She walks into the kitchen and sees Henry staring out into the back yard. He calls Claire over, and she sees Alba playing with an older girl. Henry says the older girl is Alba, in the future. Both the Albas come racing in the house, the future Alba wraps her arms around Henry and Henry whispers something in her ear. Claire turns really pale and is terrified at what he is telling her. Henry told Alba not to tell mama that he dies. To change the subject Claire asks if everyone wants to go get ice cream, both Albas start jumping with joy. Later that day Henry is sitting in bed drinking scotch and Claire puts Alba down for a nap. She joins Henry in bed trying to talk to Henry about earlier. She really wants to know what he whispered in Alba's ear. She imagines the worst, and all of a sudden it comes to her. That cold autumn morning in the meadow, Claire's dad and brother were deer hunting and Henry accidentally gets shot.
Monday, January 7, 2005 Claire is 34 and Henry is 42: It is a cold winter morning and Claire and Henry were both deeply asleep when the phone rang. It was a time traveling Henry. It was fifteen degrees below zero and he was naked out on Monroe Street. We immediately got out of bed and rushed into the car. They finally get to the pay phone where Henry called from but can't find him anywhere. They stay there for awhile hoping he will come back, but he never does, so they go back home.
This part of the book left me with many questions. I want to know if Henry really dies, and what was up with a naked Henry calling from a pay phone. I really hope Henry doesn't die. I also think that it is weird that present Alba plays with a future Alba.
