Time Traveler's Wife 325-355

Spring, 1996 Claire is 24 and Henry is 32:  Claire and Henry have been married for two years and Claire really wanted a baby.  Henry was hesitant about this because he didn't want the baby to have the same gene disorder that he has.  Finally Claire is pregnant.  In her eighth week of pregnancy Henry is away and the baby is about the size of a plum.  Claire is snuggled in a blanket reading when she starts experiencing cramps.  She doesn't know if this is normal or not but decides to wait it out.  Suddenly they start getting stronger and she goes to bathroom and starts bleeding everywhere.  She immediately calls Charisse to take her to the hospital.  When they get there the doctor tells her that she has had a miscarriage, she is devastated.  The next day she is still in the hospital and wakes up only to find Henry sitting at her side.  She starts crying and he tries to comfort her.
February 16, 1998 Claire is 26 and Henry is 34: Henry and Claire are about to go for a walk when the phone rings. Henry answers it and it's Dr. Kendrick.  He has made a break through.  Dr. Kendrick has copied Henry's gene code and is going to inject it into mice.
Wednesday, August 12, 1998 Claire is 27:  Claire is back in her child hood home with her mother.  She is very ill with cancer and her time is coming.  Claire spends her days with her mother, reading to her and drinking tea.  They share old stories and memories and always have a good laugh.  Claire's mother always talks about the garden and all the veggies she grows.   One morning Claire goes into her mother's room and finds her asleep, but Claire tries to wake her up but she never wakes up.  Claire tries to listen to her heart beat, but doesn't hear anything.  She picks her up and just holds her, she can't believe that she is actually gone.  After her funeral Claire goes back into her mother's room and breaks into her desk and discovers hundreds of papers with poems and little notes written on them.  Then she discovers a poem that is written for her, it says "The Garden Under Snow, for Claire."  Meanwhile Henry is in the kitchen with Nell trying to learn how to cook.  It is not going very well so Henry gives up.  The next morning they return back to their own home.
Overall this part of the book was very sad.  First Claire lost her baby and then her mother died.  I can only how imagine how hysterical she would have been.
